Hot Water System Options in Adelaide

Choosing the Right Hot Water System for Your Home

The market offers a wide variety of hot water systems, each with its own set of benefits and considerations. Understanding the differences between these options is key to making an informed decision that suits your household’s needs and budget.

Gas Hot Water Systems (including instantaneous and storage models) are known for their quick heat recovery and energy efficiency, making them a popular choice for larger households or homes with high hot water demands.
Electric Hot Water Systems are widely available and generally have a lower upfront cost. However, they can be more expensive to run over time, especially if not paired with off-peak electricity rates.
Solar Hot Water Systems use energy from the sun to heat water, offering long-term savings and environmental benefits. While the initial investment is higher, government incentives and reduced energy bills can make them highly cost-effective over time.
Heat Pump Hot Water Systems operate by extracting heat from the surrounding air, making them a highly efficient alternative to traditional electric systems—particularly in moderate to warm climates like Adelaide.

signs that your hot water system needs replacing

Old age

Adelaide hot water systems last on average between 8 to 15-years, depending on the model and make of your hot water heater, the water quality in your area, and regular maintenance of your hot water boiler. Sometimes a repair can extend the life of your water heater, but we recommend a new hot water service Adelaide if your unit is ten years old or older to ensure reliable performance for your property.

water leak

A leaking hot water tank is an obvious sign that you need a replacement. If the tank leaks it can not be repaired and trying to operate the hot water tank with a leak keeps you at risk of flooding or serious failures in the near future. But you need to check where the water or the leak is coming from. If the leak is coming from a valve it may be repaired but not the tank itself.

rust & corrosion

Rust and corrosion mostly inside the hot water tank are signs its coming to the end of its life. If you notice rust in the water coming from the taps or the shower, it is an indication that your water heater needs replacing. The rust coming from the tank can destroy other appliances in the house such as dishwashers and washing machines, it will also damage your piping system throughout your home.

Noises

If you often hear banging and rumbling noises coming from the hot water system, this is a sign that the unit is wearing out, and it is coming to the end of it's life. The noise can be a result of sediment building up around the water heater. The sediment corrodes the heating element and also creates a layer that makes it difficult for the system to work efficiently. Continuous banging can cause the hot water heater to leak with time.

High Energy Bills

Have you noticed higher energy bills than usual without increasing your household numbers or using new appliances? The reason might be your hot water system that has reduced efficiency. Poor efficiency means that your hot water system will be using more energy to heat the same amount of water. This may be time to think of a hot water service replacement which suits your need and is most efficient for your home.

Frequent Repairs

Frequent hot water system repairs are a sign that the hot water unit is already worn out. If your unit is already over ten years old or above it is not worth repairing it anymore. At this point, repairs can do very little to extend the life of your hot water system and there is a high possibility that you will be fixing one problem after the other and end up replacing your hot water system anyway.
